The sex on the beach cocktail is fruity and delicious, with an odd name. The name has some history, folklore if you will. Like many cocktails this one was created to sell more peach schnapps, a liquor not used all that often. The Moscow Mule has a similar backstory. A Florida bartender created the cocktail and gave it a name that would attract spring breakers.

Despite the odd name, it’s still fun to drink!

The classic cocktail is made with the following recipe.

  • 1 oz vodka
  • 1 oz peach schnapps
  • 3 oz orange juice
  • 3 oz cranberry juice

Shake up the ingredients and pour into a tall glass, garnish with an orange slice and maraschino cherry and you have a delicious cocktail.

To make this a layered cocktail, similar to the tequila sunrise, shake up the vodka, peach schnapps and orange juice and pour into a glass. Then slowly pour the cranberry juice down the side. This will give the cocktail a layered look that makes it even more fun to drink!

Do even more with this fun combination, try it as a shot. Mix equal parts vodka, peach schnapps and orange juice in an ice filled shaker. Shake well and strain into a shot glass.

The version I’m sharing has a bit of a tart flavor with the addition of grapefruit juice. Try both and see which one fits your taste.
