Honey Whiskey Lemonade Cocktail

A delicious whiskey cocktail that blends sweet and citrus perfectly. Learn how to make a honey whiskey lemonade drink to share and enjoy at home.

Honey and whiskey have always made an exceptional pair. The sweet taste of honey blends beautifully with the cozy warmth of whiskey. However, the advent of honey whiskey, all in one bottle no need to mix, is fairly new. These days you can find ample varieties of honey whiskey readily available and each one carries it’s own unique flavor.

Honey whiskey tends to be sweet and can be enjoyed neat or over ice without the addition of any mixers. But don’t stop there, this blend does make for a great cocktail base! Try it blended with iced tea or give today’s simple recipe a try, honey whiskey lemonade.

This cocktail has it’s roots in a traditional whiskey sour. A cocktail made with whiskey, a sour component like lemon juice and sweet taste brought in with sugar or simple syrup. Blending a warm liquor like whiskey with citrus and a bit of sweet creates a delicious cocktail. The key is getting the ratio of whiskey and lemon correct so the flavors compliment each other and one does not overpower the other.

How to choose a honey whiskey

With so many varieties on the market, how do you choose just one? If you are a fan of whiskey a particular whiskey, start with your go to brand. Many whiskey brands have their own honey version. Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, Wild Turkey, Black Eagle and more. They all have subtle differences just as their stand alone whiskeys do. After much taste testing I have settled on Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey to keep stocked in my bar. It has just the right amount of sweet and makes an excellent base for so many cocktails. Jack Daniel’s combine their signature whiskey with a honey liqueur that is brewed with real honey. The result is a smooth taste that is sweet without overpowering the whiskey.

Once you have a honey whiskey of your choice you’ll just need some lemonade. The simplicity of this cocktail makes it easy to make and enjoy at home. I prefer a brand of lemonade with pulp and lots of tangy citrus flavor. Stay away from overly sweet concentrate mixtures or this cocktail will not turn out well.
