I have an ice cream maker, it’s sat in my cabinet for years and every once in a while I remember I have it and go on a frozen treat spree. You have to freeze the basin for a day or so before you can use it so once I get going I just wash it and stick it back in the freezer. Then I can make ice cream or slush every day!

This machine is wonderful for making ice cream or frozen yogurt, but it also makes a delicious slush. I like to pour in some fruit juice and turn it on for a few minutes to make slushies for the kids. It’s a refreshing treat on a warm day and it takes literally just a few minutes to make.
So why not try a grown up version of this easy slush?
Making a frozen whiskey slush takes a little longer. The alcohol and carbonation don’t freeze as quickly as water or juice alone. But it does work and is absolutely delicious!
- 12 ounces Coca-Cola
- 4 ounces honey whiskey
- Prepare your ice cream maker. If you are using this one or a similar model freeze the basin ahead of time and take it out just before making this cocktail.
- In the frozen basin combine the soda and whiskey.
- Cover the ice cream maker and turn it on. Let it churn for at least 20 minutes, or until a slush is formed.
- Use an ice cream scoop to transfer the slush to 2 glasses.
- Sip and enjoy!

Keep the basin of the ice cream maker in your freezer. When you are ready to enjoy a cold drink, just pull it out and add just enough ingredients to make a single cocktail. Or more to serve a crowd. Check out the recipe above for my preferred ratio.
The ice cream maker will need to churn the ingredients for at least 20 minutes. You are aiming for a slush consistency that you can scoop out. I prefer a little liquid left over to make it easier to drink.
If you plan to enjoy these cocktails outdoors on a hot day, consider freezing the mixture longer as it will melt faster outside.
