What is bourbon
Bourbon is a type of American whiskey, so all bourbon is whiskey but not all whiskey is bourbon. It can only be made in the US, following strict distillery guidelines. Bourbon starts with a corn mash and is aged in charred oak barrels that can only be used once. No flavor is added so the taste typically reflects the barrel is has been aged in.
Due to the strict nature of how bourbon can be made in the US, distilleries are left with many used charred oak barrels. They have gotten creative and other industries are putting these barrels to use.
Coffee and wine manufacturers have used the barrels to infuse this unique flavor into their products without adding any alcohol.

Cherry Bourbon Smash
An easy pink drink made with bourbon.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 oz bourbon
- 3/4 oz lime juice
- 3/4 grenadine
- 4-6 oz club soda
Instructions
- Combine bourbon, lime juice and grenadine in a shaker filled with ice. Shake well.
- Strain into an ice filled glass.
- Top with club soda.
- Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
Notes
Try straining this cocktail into a tall glass and adding more club soda for a lighter version.
