What is Tequila?

Tequila originated from the 16th century and was first created nearby the city of Tequila in Mexico. It’s distilled from the Blue Agave plant. One of its popular uses is to take it as a shot with a lick of salt and a slice of lime. A good tequila contains between 35 and 60% of alcohol, but it has to include a minimum of 40% to be sold in the US.

Tequila has a very distinct taste and contains a combination of flavors. Depending on the brand you buy, you may taste the agave combined with smoked oak, caramel, vanilla, and various spices.

The philosophy behind the Blue Frostbite Cocktail

Not to be associated with actual frostbite, this blue cocktail is ideal for drinking during the cold winter months. The blue drink gets its color from the Blue Curacao, which adds a hint of citrus to the taste. In combination with the tequila, this provides a sweet/sour-y sensation in your mouth.

However, that’s not the end product of this winter drink. The combination of cacao and mint recreate the nostalgic memory of eating candy canes during Christmas when you were younger, while the thick cream provides a full feeling in your stomach and warms you up from the inside out.

This cocktail is designed to make you long for the good old days of cold winters and warm hearths. It provides you with a sensation that can only be described as feeling warm and cold at the same time. The warmth comes from the tequila cocktail combination with Blue Curacao, while the cold comes from the minty flavors.

The red maraschino cherry on top adds a nice contrast to the blue color of the cocktail and gives it just a bit more Christmas spirit!

When to drink the Frostbite cocktail

This frostbite cocktail is perfect for sharing with others during the cold winter days. Invite some friends and ask them to bring pictures from the winters during their childhood. Indulge in the nostalgic feelings and memories you created while you toast and take a sip of your cocktail.

Go out into the snow and relive your memories. Throw snowballs at each other or build a snowman as high as you can reach. Then, when you get back inside, you huddle up in some warm blankets and laugh while you enjoy your frosty drink.

Cocktail variations

This perfect winter drink can be made a little lighter for the stomach by adding milk rather than heavy cream. If you are vegan or lactose intolerant, you can use oat milk to keep the creamy texture!

If you dislike the taste of tequila, you can choose to add only 0,75 ounces of Tequila and add a bit more of Blue Curacao, Crème de Menthe, and Crème de Cacao instead.

You can also make a mocktail using heavy cream, mint syrup, lemon soda, and a dash of cocoa powder. It’s ideal for when you want to enjoy the same textures without the added alcohol, or for when you have kids that like a colorful drink. Serve any version of this drink in these fun cocktail glasses.
